Traditional Genealogy
This involves using traditional methodologies to complete a Family Pedigree Tree. This is the first step on the journey to documenting your family tree. This will allow you to understand your direct ancestor’s pedigree. To create this pedigree, we will review civic, church and census records, as well as census substitutes for the agreed period. We will use resources from both subscription sites as well as local repositories. You will receive a detailed, referenced report that will include a family tree as well as details of all sources used, searches completed (including positive and negative results) and suggested next steps in terms of research.
Family Tree Verification
Clients sometimes have completed some research and may encounter an obstacle or are gifted research from a family member and are unsure of its accuracy and wish to have it independently verified. We can support this. We will verify the data and suggest next steps to support you as you continue to research your family history.
DNA
DNA is a new and exciting development in the world of Genealogy. However, it can be complicated and overwhelming to the uninitiated. There are a number of large commercial sites that provide testing services. The tests are easy to complete, however the results of the tests can be difficult to navigate and understand. It is not unusual to receive several thousand DNA matches; this can be overwhelming. We will work with you to interpret and understand these matches, which will in turn enhance your family tree.
Bespoke One to One Session & Irish Passport Application Support
Would a bespoke one to one tutorial help you break down a family tree obstacle, answer some local history queries or add context to the period when your ancestors were alive ? Book a personalised session and we can work through your obstacle, offering solutions or substitute research avenues. You will receive a personalised tip sheet to assist your research and increase your knowledge. We can provide an individual / group bespoke tutorial to enhance your knowledge of some of the most commonly used online Irish repositories.

All services are charged on an hourly basis and all initial consultations are free of charge. Consultations can be either in person or virtually via Zoom.

Services
The Irish Genie was founded by Frances Daly. Frances is based in Dublin and specialises in Irish Genealogy. Frances has been researching her own family tree for over 15 years. Using traditional methodologies including civic records, church records, census substitutes, travel records and newspaper archives her family tree has 2,500 verified relatives and continues to grow. She has also incorporated DNA methodologies that have enhanced research opportunities. Frances completed her Certificate in Genealogy from University College Dublin in 2013 and in 2021, graduated from University of Limerick with an MA in History of the Family (1st Class). Her thesis was titled “Sine Metu: The Jameson Family as an exploration of the Irish Elite”.
Frances is a member of the Irish Genealogical Research Society and the Pharos Pro-Am Genie Networking Group.
