The Irish Genie Terms & Conditions

Prior to commencing any research commission, the following terms and conditions must be signed by a client. 

  • These terms and conditions apply to any genealogical research commission or associated services between the client and The Irish Genie.  Prior to the commencement of any commission the client  must read, understand, and returned a signed full copy of these terms and conditions.  The agreement will be considered effective when The Irish Genie has received a signed copy of this document and a payment of the deposit as noted in the initial quote.

  • Your contract and family information are treated as strictly confidential and will not be provided to any other person or organisation without the client’s permission. Should the client request The Irish Genie to communicate with anyone other than the client regarding the commissioned family research, written permission will be required in advance of any such communication. Before beginning any research, The Irish Genie will confirm the client’s instructions in writing.

  • The Irish Genie will undertake the following activities.

    • Complete a review of information supplied by the client.

    • Design a research plan.

    • Complete the pertinent genealogical research (and DNA result analysis where required)

    • Interpret the evidence.

    • Document findings in a written report.

  • Following the completion of the commission the client can expect to receive a written report that will document the following. 

    • Research Log – this will document the searches undertaken including both the positive and negative results.

    • A family pedigree and associated family tree.

    • Evidence based findings.

    • Copies of all records found including but not limited to certificates of births, deaths, marriages, census records.

    • Opportunities for further research. 

  • The Irish Genie will discuss at the outset of the commission the possibilities of potential unexpected discoveries and whether these should be disclosed.  These include but are not limited to the following possibilities, Family Secrets, Court Proceedings, Medical Events, Press Reports and DNA discoveries.

  • An initial deposit is chargeable to initiate a commission as per the agreed quotation.  This will include an estimate of time to complete the commission as well as an additional cost such as travel and communications where appropriate. The remaining balance becomes due on completion of the commission before the report and any supporting documentation is sent to the client.

     

    Where further work is required, this will be agreed under a separate quote.

     

    Reasonable costs will be reimbursed by the client and will be included in the final settlement.  These will include costs such as 

    • Costs associated with postage, printing, photocopying.

    • Procurement of records including associated pay per view costs to online sources.

     

    All invoices will be paid via bank transfer or Stripe  to the account noted in the initial quote.  

    Where an invoice remains overdue for a period of 3 months it will be escalate to a collection agency.

  • The Irish Genie cannot guarantee that they will be able to find any particular ancestor, events or relevant information to the client’s family.   The research will remain within the parameters of the agreed commission, where this is not successful the client will be consulted and a joint decision on next steps will be agreed together in an open and client focused manner.

  • The client becomes the owner of the physical report.  Any documents prepared by The Irish Genie including any Family tree charts, reports, transcriptions, and translations remained copyright of The Irish Genie and should not be published without their prior consent. Any material which has been digitised by and obtained from websites remains a copyright of the individual website and will be fully acknowledged in the report. It should not be further published.

  • By agreeing to these terms and conditions the client agrees to The Irish Genie retaining their personal information as is required and necessary to conduct the research on the client's behalf. Personal details or documentation provided to The Irish Genie which contains information about living people are provided with their implied consent. This agreement is subject to the law of the Republic of Ireland.
